Science of Mind

Ernest HolmesScience of Mind is a philosophical teaching and a way of life. It is based on teachings from the ancient wisdom traditions, Eastern and Western philosophy, as well as the findings of scientific discovery, especially from Einsteinian and Quantum Physics. The similar concepts from these and other sources were synthesized by the founder of Religious Science, Ernest Holmes, and are continually expanding and deepening with further investigation and insight.

Religious Science had its beginnings many centuries ago, although the spiritual discipline itself is less than one hundred years old. The foundational concepts derive from ancient wisdom of the great spiritual texts of the ages: from Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Taoism, Sufi mystics, the Kaballah, and the mystical and practical writings of many others. Science of Mind combines these universal teachings from the Bible, the Vedanta, the Koran, the Analects, the Tao Te Ching, the Torah, to name a few, with the works of the philosophers of transcendental thought, and the natural laws of scientific inquiry. We do not take every word in these texts literally, but sense deeper meanings behind the words of these writers who often experienced spiritual reality intensely and directly.

Our founder, Ernest Holmes, saw the thread that tied the great wisdom teachings together and ran through the scientific disciplines of psychology and the natural sciences. He saw that all the great religious traditions had at their core the universal principles of belief in an infinite power, the healing influence of love, and the role of belief and attitude in developing our experience of “Heaven on Earth.” The most fundamental principle in our philosophy is that all life is one, that there is one intelligence and creative power that expresses itself as the universe. All are individualized centers of this one divine presence and power called Spirit or God.
